Report calls for sustainable refrigeration to combat hunger

Beko’s latest report has highlighted the essential role of refrigeration in addressing global food insecurity, aligning with the 2024 World Food Day theme, “Right to Foods for a Better Life and a Better Future.”

The report titled The Right to Refrigeration has emphasized that millions, particularly in underdeveloped regions, face food spoilage due to unreliable refrigeration. Refrigeration consumes 17% of global electricity and generates 8% of carbon emissions, underscoring the need for a transition to sustainable innovations.

Beko’s report is calling for collaboration between public and private sectors to develop affordable, energy-efficient refrigeration, reduce food waste, and mitigate environmental impacts.

World Food Day, observed on October 16, promotes global action against hunger.
