SOI Foundation’s 2024 expedition offers hands-on training in Sustainable Blue Economy

The SOI Foundation has announced the 2024 Blue Futures Pathways (BFP) Expedition, set to sail from Nunavut to Newfoundland aboard the Mi’kmaq-owned icebreaker Oqwatnukewey Eleke’wi’ji’jit (MV Polar Prince). This 19-day expedition will offer young adults aged 18-35 hands-on training and exploration of career pathways in the Sustainable Blue Economy.

Participants will engage in activities such as environmental DNA sampling, ROV building, and drone operations. The journey will also delve into Indigenous history and Traditional Knowledge Systems. The expedition is endorsed by the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.

“The 2024 Blue Futures Pathways Expedition is a testament to our commitment to fostering skills and knowledge to empower the next generation of leaders in the Sustainable Blue Economy,” said SOI Foundation’s Director of Programs Tara Mascarenhas.
