Survey: Canadians favor renovated suburban homes
A recent survey by digital real estate platform Wahi revealed that most Canadian homebuyers prefer renovated single-family homes in the suburbs, despite high prices and the availability of condos. The survey, conducted among 1,501 Canadians in May 2024, found that 64% of respondents favor single-family homes, primarily in suburban (38%) or urban (34%) areas.
Younger homebuyers aged 18 to 34 expressed a strong preference for single-family homes (67%), with 74% of those over 55 seeking fully renovated properties.
Provincial differences emerged, with the lowest demand for single-family homes in British Columbia (52%), compared to 82% in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Atlantic Canada stood out for its rural preference, with 58% of respondents desiring rural properties, well above the national average.
