Thetford Mines to gain 24 new affordable housing units in joint government effort

The governments of Canada and Quebec have selected a 24-unit social and affordable housing project in Thetford Mines, the Logéa Thetford project, as part of a broader effort to address the housing crisis. This initiative is part of Société d’habitation du Québec’s Programme d’habitation abordable Québec (PHAQ), which received joint funding of $900 million each from the federal and provincial governments.

The project aims to address Thetford Mines’ housing shortage, where the vacancy rate is just 0.3%. Local officials, including Minister Marie-Claude Bibeau and Member of Parliament Isabelle Lecours, emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts to tackle the region’s housing needs.

The developer has 12 months to sign an agreement with a contractor to keep the project on track. This project is expected to contribute to the construction of 2,574 new housing units in Quebec.
