Understanding the causes of high staff turnover in the workplace

High staff turnover, where employees frequently leave and are replaced, often indicates challenges in employee retention. James Dooley, founder of FatRank, highlighted four primary reasons for this issue.

A lack of benefits, such as dental insurance and maternity leave, often leads employees to seek employers offering more comprehensive packages. Insufficient benefits prompt workers to look elsewhere for better opportunities.

Additionally, a disconnect between management and employees can cause dissatisfaction. When employees feel unheard or undervalued, they are more likely to leave for a more engaging work environment.

Low salaries and minimal raises also fail to meet employees’ financial needs, driving them to seek better-paying opportunities. Finally, overwhelming workloads and constant communication outside of work hours contribute to burnout, prompting employees to look for jobs with better work/life balance.

Addressing these factors can help businesses improve retention and reduce turnover.
