Uniboard mill modernization program shows progress
Uniboard is well underway with the third phase of its modernization program for its Val-d’Or, QC-based particleboard and TFL mill. The first part of phase three is a distribution complex, which will be operational in August. The construction of the building for the 10-foot-wide continuous press and finishing line started in June. Installation of the particleboard line will begin in early 2024 and is expected to come on stream in the first quarter of 2025. The line will expand annual particleboard production capacity from 205 million square feet to 310 million square feet. It will offer a wide range of panel formats and thicknesses opening up new sales opportunities and applications for its customers. Phase one and two of the mill modernization program were completed in 2017 and 2020, respectively. The Val-d’Or mill uses 100% post-industrial wood residuals primarily sourced from black spruce softwood, renowned for making a light-coloured panel with exceptional machining and cutting properties. The mill is also a Forest Stewardship Council chain-of-custody certified facility.
