Walmart Canada opens western high-tech fulfillment centre

Walmart Canada's has opened its first high-tech fulfillment centre in western Canada in Rocky View County, AB. The 430,000-square-foot facility serves as a delivery hub top bringing two-day shipping to the retailer’s western Canada customers. It will also store thousands of items available on Walmart.ca. The facility is capable of shipping 20 million items annually from the facility directly to customers and can handle up to 500,000 unique items to fulfill direct-to-home and ship-to-store pickup orders. It will also fulfill orders for Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS), Walmart's end-to-end fulfillment service for the retailer's third-party e-commerce sellers, including larger, non-conveyable items, like large patio items, for the first time. The centre features several types of fulfillment robotics; technology-enhanced inbound receiving; and auto-boxing technology.
