Whirlpool Corporation launches new tech center

Whirlpool Corporation has inaugurated its 153,000-square-foot technology center in St. Joseph, MI. This $60 million initiative marks the commencement of a three-phase plan to modernize the revered research and development facility, previously known as the St. Joseph Technology Centre.

The new establishment, recognized with LEED Silver certification for sustainability, is set to enhance consumer solutions in laundry, dishwashing, and small appliance products. Over 500 technicians, engineers, designers, and support staff now operate within its premises, which boasts 21 advanced testing laboratories.

"In 1911, the first electric washing machines were built here in St. Joseph, Michigan, and we continue to grow that legacy with the investment in this new, state-of-the-art technology centre," said Marc Bitzer, chairman and CEO. "We are committed to this community, and to improving life at home for families around the world. This new technology hub helps enable both of these promises by creating a new space where future innovation will come to life."
